Going to MAC makes music
What did you do?
I went to the MAC in Birmingham to do a 4 day course on music. It was called MAC makes music. While I was there I got to play on lots of different instruments and I got to make some songs.
What instruments did you play?
While I was there, I got to play the drums, the acoustic guitar, the electric guitar, a harp, the Ipad, the drum pad, the piano, a microphone and the bells
What was your favourite instrument to play? And why?
I would say my favourite instrument was the bells, because they make nice sounds and nice melodies. While playing the bells I got to make my own piece of music with somebody playing the cello and we performed this in front of the rest of the group.
What did you like the most?
I loved learning all about the different instruments. I really enjoyed being gradually introduced to all of the instruments. It was very laid back which meant that I wasn’t rushed and I could take my time getting to know all of the different instruments there.
What did you learn while you were there?
I learnt how all of the different instruments are played. For example, the keyboard has different keys that you press to play different sounds. I learnt how to hold different instruments. For example to play the harp you have to rest it on your shoulder and you reach around to the different strings. On the harp there are red, black and white strings. As well as learning about the instruments, I also learnt about the different notes in music, A, B, C, D. These notes make different sounds, and different pitches.
Was there anything you disliked?
It was very hard for me to concentrate and play my instrument because of loud noise in the background, especially when somebody was playing the drums.
Would you recommend to a friend?
I definitely would recommend The MAC makes music to a friend that enjoys making music because it gives you an opportunity to meet other students and to play different instruments that you might not get to play very often.
I would like to say a big thank you to the MAC makes music team that have let me have this opportunity. Thank you for being, understanding, patient and caring. And thank you for all of your creativity which made the group very interesting. I really hope to be able to do this course again!
